Activated Carbon Filters are special filters used in cigarettes, joints, pipes, or vaporizers that contain activated carbon (charcoal) to reduce harmful substances in the smoke before it reaches the lungs.
What They Do:
Activated carbon filters trap or adsorb certain toxic or irritating compounds in the smoke, including:
- Tar
- Volatile organic compounds (VOCs)
- Ammonia
- Some carcinogens
- Unpleasant odours or harsh flavours
How They're Used:
- Pre-rolled cigarettes or joints: Some rolling tips or filter tips are made with activated carbon.
- Hand-rolled joints: Smokers can insert activated carbon tips like Professor Herb.
- Pipes or bongs: Some include activated carbon chambers.
- Vaporizers: Rare, but some include carbon filtration for cooling or purifying vapour.
Pros:
- Smoother smoke with reduced harshness.
- Better flavour by removing bitter or chemical-like tastes.
- Health benefit (limited): May reduce some toxins, but not all.
Cons:
- It doesn’t eliminate all harmful substances like nicotine or carbon monoxide.
- May slightly alter the potency or flavour of cannabis or tobacco.
- Needs regular replacement or cleaning.
